Iran’s former vice - president ends up in jail

ILNA: Former Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi who was convicted to over five years in jail was transferred to the Evin Prison on Feb. 15 to serve his term.

According to a verdict issued by Tehran Province criminal Court on January ۲۱st, Rahimi is to spend five years and ۹۱ days in prison.

He is also to return ۸.۵ billion rilas worth of goods and pay a fine of ۱۰ billion rials.

Rahimi was taken by police agents on Feb. ۱۵ from his residence and then transferred to Evin prison, north of the capital Tehran.

Rahimi had appealed to a former verdict which convicted him to ۱۵ years in jail.

The Court of Appeal reviewed the case and after a second appeal by the defendant, the case was forwarded to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court reduced the prison term and confirmed the new verdict(five years and ۹۱ days).

He was charged with embezzlement from Iran Insurance Company.
