Iran’s Zarif, EU’s Mogherini Hold Talks in Germany

ILNA: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini in a meeting in Germany’s Munich discussed the issues related to the nuclear talks between Iran and six major world powers.

The bilateral meeting took place on the sidelines of the ۵۱st Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

The EU foreign policy chief is tasked with coordinating diplomacy with Iran on behalf of the Group ۵ + ۱(Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Iran and the six nations(alternatively known as the P۵ + ۱ or E۳ + ۳) are in talks to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

During the meeting, Mogherini asserted that the Group ۵ + ۱ has “strong political determination” to strike a deal with Iran.

She also noted that the long - awaited accord will have positive effects on the regional developments.

Zarif and Mogherini also discussed the latest regional developments, as in Syria and Yemen, and emphasized the necessity for the fight against extremism and terrorism.

Earlier in the day, Zarif also held meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond in Munich.
