ILNA: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has lashed out at those claiming to be preventing Iran from building an atomic bomb, saying the country has no need for nuclear weapons.

Addressing a huge gathering of people in the central Iranian city of Isfahan on Wednesday, Rouhani said “a devoted, integrated and united nation " such as Iran does not require atomic bombs.

The Iranian president was referring to a recent bill drawn up by some US Congress members to increase pressure and sanctions on Iran in what they claim is an attempt to prevent the Iranian government from pursuing nuclear weapons.

Rouhani added that using nuclear weapons will never guarantee the safety and security of a nation, saying that those already possessing atomic bombs still feel insecure.

“You, who made the atomic bomb and gave it to a criminal like the occupying Zionist regime; did you manage to create security for yourself and that regime through these bombs? ” Rouhani asked.

He noted that the Iranian nation has no fear of threats and sanctions as it will resolutely continue its journey on the path of development and progress.

“Despite all pressures and sanctions, Iran launched a new satellite into space, ” Rouhani said, adding that the country relies on its prominent scientists in various fields of science and technology.

Iran on Monday successfully placed into orbit the domestically - made National Fajr(Dawn) Satellite. The satellite is capable of staying in space for ۱.۵ years and taking and transmitting high - quality pictures to stations on earth.
