Iran, World Powers to Launch Deputy - Level Talks in Oman: Diplomat

ILNA: A top Iranian diplomat said on Sunday that deputies foreign minister representing Iran and the sextet of world powers are slated to hold a forthcoming meeting in Oman to discuss Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

Iranian deputy foreign minister and one of the country’s senior nuclear negotiators, Seyed Abbas Araqchi, announced that the deputy - level meeting will be held on November ۱۱.

Araqchi also confirmed reports that Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, US Secretary of State John Kerry and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton will convene a trilateral meeting in Oman’s capital of Muscat on November ۹ and ۱۰.

“In the trilateral meeting among Zarif, Kerry and Ashton, the parties will discuss issues on enrichment and sanctions, ” the senior Iranian negotiator noted.

Earlier this week, the European Union(EU) announced in its twitter account that Iran and the Group ۵ + ۱(Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) will restart negotiations in the Austrian capital of Vienna on November ۱۸ for a last - ditch effort to clinch a comprehensive agreement.

Iran and the G۵ + ۱(alternatively known as the P۵ + ۱ or E۳ + ۳) are in talks to hammer out a final deal to end a decade of impasse over Tehran’s civilian nuclear work.

On November ۲۴,۲۰۱۳, Iran and the G۵ + ۱(the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) signed an interim nuclear deal in the Swiss city of Geneva.

The Geneva deal(the Joint Plan of Action) came into effect in January and expired in July, when the parties decided to extend negotiations until November ۲۴ in the hope of clinching a final deal that would end a decade of impasse over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear energy program.

In separate comments, Ashton’s spokesman Michael Mann also said she will first meet in Vienna on November ۷ with political directors from the Group ۵ + ۱ nations before flying to Oman to meet with Zarif and Kerry in closed meetings.
