Iran’s President Rouhani arrives in New York

ILNA: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrives in New York to attend the 69th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The plane carrying the Iranian president arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday afternoon local time.

Upon his arrival, Rouhani was received by a group of Iranian and foreign officials.

“Last year violence and extremism were proposed as one of the significant issues of the world, ” Rouhani told reporters at the airport, adding, “I hope this year we will discuss the issue and the ways to counter it as well. ”

The Iranian president said that he “will have separate meetings with heads of different states and will use this opportunity to elaborate on the positions of the Islamic Republic vis - a - vis significant international and regional issues. ”

Iran has ruled out the possibility of a meeting with US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the UN meeting.

On Wednesday, the Iranian administration’s spokesman, Mohammad - Baqer Nobakht, said President Rouhani has no plan to meet with Obama.

On Sunday, the Iranian president held talks with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and the Leader wished President Rouhani success during his trip.

The ۶۹th annual session of the General Assembly opened in New York on September ۱۶ and will end on October ۱.
