Ecuador to open trade office in Tehran: Ecuadorian FM

Ecuador will open a trade office in Tehran in the near future, Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Guillaume Long said on Wednesday.

He made the remarks in the opening ceremony of Iran-Ecuador trade forum.

Ecuador is interested to use Iran as a gate to Central Asian and Middle Eastern countries, Long said.

He said that Ecuador offers lots of potential for Iranian investors.

Ecuador has lots of opportunities in various fields of minerals, trade and oil for Iranian investors, the Ecuadorean foreign minister said.

Long said that Ecuador is one of the biggest producers of agricultural products and wants to use Iran as a transit route to export products to Middle East and Central Asia.

According to him, the two countries are expected to sign a deal on healthcare on Wednesday.

Iran and Ecuador relations have been always promotional, he said.

Iran-Ecuador trade forum held today in Quito with presence of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and businessmen and traders from the two countries.

Zarif, heading a 120-member delegation is on a six-nation tour of Latin America in a bid to broaden economic cooperation between Iran and states in the region.

The Iranian foreign minister was in Cuba on Monday and travelled to Nicaragua on Tuesday.

Following Ecuador, Zarif will visit Chile, Bolivia and Venezuela later this week.
