Regarding the new released videos of gas and steam in Damavand peak, experts speculate about the volcano's activity.

"Behrooz Oskooii", Head of Geomagnetic section of University of Tehran’s Institute of Geophysics (IGUT)  announced that the released footage of the two Iranian hikers which shows gasses simmering from the peak of mount Damavand (a potentially active volcano) is totally different from the volcano’s regular activities.

After the release of the video, some speculated about the peak’s eruption while at the same time, some rejected the idea. Oskooi, Geophysics specialist in Tehran University Institute of Geophysics in a letter did not dismissed the chances.

Below are some parts of the letter:

“Many havestated that "this volcano has never had lava" or "what the video from the two hikers display are just gas and steam simmering from the peak".

But most of the volcanologists, publishing articles have proved that Damavand volcano has total potential for becoming active. They called the above statements unscientific and irresponsible and against the current reality.

How can an active volcano with such proved activity does not have the probability of erupting lava?”
