Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a phone call with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan condemned the recent failed coup in Turkey, reiterating that Iran would stand by Turkish nation and legitimate government.

“Hopefully, Turkish people demonstrated political maturity in the process of coup, and proved that bullying approaches go nowhere in our region,” Rouhani said in the phone call.

He said Turkish stability and calm would improve stability and peace across the region, “There is no doubt that major powers and terrorists do not want stable Islamic states.”

Rouhani also stressed joint battle of all regional countries with terrorists.

Erdogan, for his part, said Turkey would press ahead with its own path with stronger determination than before.

“We are firm to work with Iran and Russia to sort out regional problems and add our efforts to return peace and stability to the region.”
