President Hassan Rouhani described the trilateral talks between Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia to be held in Azeri capital as very important.

President Rouhani made the remarks Sunday prior to his flight to Baku, Azerbaijan, to hold trilateral negotiations.

The negotiations will focus on North-South Transport Corridor, the President said.

North–South Transport Corridor is a sea, rail, and road route for exchange of goods between India, Russia, Iran, Europe and Central Asia.

The Baku trilateral talks are important in terms of cooperation with neighboring countries, conditions in the Middle East and Caucasus region and stability there, Rouhani noted.

The two-day Baku talks will be held for the first time between the three countries, he added.

About his trip, Rouhani said several bilateral and trilateral meetings will be held there focusing on bilateral questions and regional fight against terrorism.

Relations with Azerbaijan have promoted in recent years and ties with Russia have moved towards strategic purposes, the Iranian President stressed.

Iran has had good cooperation with those two countries in different international and regional issues, Rouhani said.

'North-South Transport Corridor is a big blessing for the country,' Rouhani stressed.

The aim of the Corridor is to increase trade connections between major cities including Mumbai, Moscow, Tehran, Baku, Bandar Abbas, Astrakhan, Bandar Anzali, etc.

Bandar Abbas and Bandar Anzali are two Iranian port cities in north and south of the country.
