Iran, Russia Presidents review latest regional situation on phone

President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation Saturday night exchanged views on the latest developments in Syria.

The two presidents also discussed the continuing political negotiations aimed at settling the Syrian crisis.

The two presidents further reviewed the developments and the status quo in Syria after the terrorist groups were defeated in Aleppo, calling for continuation of the political negotiations to settle crisis in this Arabic country based on the Syrian nation's consent.

During the phone conversation, the two presidents also exchanged views on Tehran-Moscow cooperation to resume talks on Syrian crisis in the presence of all Syrian parties in Astana, Kazakhstan.

President Rouhani also cited Astana as a best venue for hosting peace negotiations between the Syrian government and the oppositions groups.

Touching upon the latest victories achieved in Syria, the Iranian President underlined the importance of making efforts to get the entire Syrian nation free from the siege of terrorists and highlighted the need for dispatching humanitarian and medical aid to the crisis-hit country.

President Rouhani also extended condolences to his Russian counterpart on the assassination of Russian Ambassador to Ankara Andrei G. Karlov by a Turkish police officer.

Putin also congratulated the Syrian army's victory over terrorists in Aleppo, adding Moscow and Tehran would continue their consultation and coordination in future as the policies have so far been constructive in the international arena.
