Developing ties with EU depends on Presidential Election results; Top Diplomat tells ILNA

Former Iran's top diplomat told ILNA that further developing ties with EU depends on presidential election results.

"Abdolreza Farajirad", geopolitics university professor in an interview with ILNA correspondent told that improving Tehran and Brussels relations depends on the Iran’s upcoming presidential election results.

"If President "Hassan Rouhani", would elected again, Iran and EU’s processes of developing ties would continue to move further" he underlined.

Regarding Iran and EU relations in year 1395 (from 21 March 2016-2017) Farajirad stressed that relations were remained unchanged in comparison to the preceding year and still there’s growth in ties "but regarding economic collaborations we’ve witnessed progress and movements."

"Europeans started to develop economic ties after achieving nuclear deal and signing JCPOA. They started evaluating economic opportunities for investments early at the time of negotiations, to begin cooperating with companies and executive bodies after reaching the deal” he emphasized.

According to former Iran’s ambassador to Norway and Hungry, during these times, Germany, France and Italy have earned the biggest share of economic collaborations with Tehran.

"They began collaborating with Iran in aviation, automotive, shipping and navigation industries and transportation and high technologies" he added.

Faraji rad, regarded opening of EU office in Tehran as generating momentum in two sides’ relations "through which the two can evaluate and identify grounds and opportunities for further investment."  

Top former diplomat, noted that in his view, at this time, Europeans are acting more independently toward Iran.

"At the past, Europeans, easily join US and Arabian countries in standing against Iran but fortunately, US’s latest efforts in this grounds have not been welcomed by them" he emphasized.

"Most of the pressures against Iran are politically biased" he added.
