A lawmaker said chairmen of parliamentary commissions are to hold a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani at his office on Monday.

“The meeting is aimed at increasing coordination between the two branches of government,” Mohammad Reza Pourebrahimi told ICANA on Sunday.

Discussions on major issues facing the country, in particular the economic priorities and how to tackle them, will be among the topics to be addressed at the meeting, he said.

“We hope that we can take big steps to solve people’s livelihood and economic problems during the meeting,” Pourebrahimi said. In addition, the parliamentarian said the rate of fuels—itself a complex issue that affects many peoples’ lives—and the next year’s budget bill will be discussed at the meeting.

Rouhani submitted the draft budget bill for the next fiscal year, which begins on March 21, 2018, to parliament in early December.

The proposed budget, in which the government has projected a stronger dollar and more tax revenues, has been met with some criticism.
