Iranian defense minister arrived here on Wednesday to hold talks with the Iraqi officials on ways to widen security cooperation.

Upon arrival in Baghdad, Brigadier General Amir Hatami was welcomed by Secretary General of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense Lieutenant General Mohammad Jawad Kazim.

At the Baghdad International Airport, Iranian defense minister said his visit to the neighboring country is aimed to develop bilateral cooperation in the areas of defense and military.

As Hatami said, during his two-day stay in Baghdad, the latest regional developments particularly the recent US air strike on Syria will be reviewed.

The US together with its allies, the UK and France targeted the Syrian capital city of Damascus early Saturday. The attack was widely condemned by the world as an act of invasion against a sovereign country.
