President Rouhani visits Plasco fire site

President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday morning visited the site of the catastrophic fire in downtown Tehran where the search and rescue operation is underway for a number of firefighters trapped under rubbles.

A big fire broke out in Tehran's first trade center, the Plasco Building, on January 19 causing the eventual collapse of the high-rise building. A number of firefighters were trapped under the rubbles. Search and rescue operation has been underway since then to save them.

During his inspection of the fire site, President Rouhani was briefed on the ceaseless operation to spot and rescue the trapped firefighters by the commanders of the teams in charge of operations.

Appreciating the zealous performance of the rescue teams, he issued necessary orders to speed up the operations and carry out needed measures.

Reresentative of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Friday visited the firefighters who were injured in the Plasco Trade Center fire.

On Friday, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution sent his representative to two Tehran hospitals to convey his greetings and prayers for the quick recovery of the injured firefighters.

Head of Iran's Emergency Medical Services, Pir-Hossein Kolivand, said on Thursday that following the collapse of the Plasco Trade Center many firefighters are feared dead.

The 17-storey building which began its work in 1962 as the symbol of modernization of the Iranian capital, collapsed on Thursday while a number of firefighters were in the iconic trade center to rescue those trapped in the huge fire.
