Iran standing by Afghan people, government: FM spokesman

Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said Iran is always standing by Afghan people and government in hard conditions.

Qasemi condemned the recent terrorist attack in the city of Kabul, Afghanistan, saying that certain countries' support for extremism has given rise to cruel terrorist measures.

FM spokesman dismissed use of any kind of violence in achieving goals.

He also expressed hope for political initiatives and negotiations to be held among Afghan groups and without regional and foreign countries interference, an act which could be a road block on the way of these terrorist which have threatened the security and stability in Afghanistan.

Qasemi noted that terrorist attacks anywhere and by any group are regarded aggressive and heinous acts and should be denounced seriously.

He also urged all peace seeking countries to review the issue of extremism and also its supporters.

The Wednesday explosion in Kabul, Afghanistan claimed the lives of 67 people and injured 325 others.

According to the local reports, the explosion, which occurred at 04:00 GMT in the Wazir Akbar Khan region, targeted Afghanistan’s National Security Council.
